People's Community Clinic provides a patient-centered medical home for more than 11,000 Central Texans. Our Center for Adolescent Health offers robust services for this population from family planning and social support for young families to chronic illness care and behavioral health programs. Adult medicine at People’s encompasses medical assessment, treatment, and prevention services; annual exams; health and nutrition education; laboratory testing and medications; and social work services. When needed, patients may also access support from the Chronic Disease Management Program, Integrated Behavioral Health, Nutrition Department, or Patient Pharmaceutical Assistance Program.
Our Pediatric team provides evaluation of newborns and anticipatory guidance for parents, immunizations, health and developmental screening, well-child examinations, medical assessment and treatment for chronic and acute conditions. The department serves as a medical home that is family-centered, compassionate, and culturally sensitive.
Reproductive health services encompass annual gynecological medical examinations, family planning and prevention services, and assessment and treatment for conditions affecting the reproductive system. Providers work with adult, adolescent, and prenatal medical programs to address the whole lifecycle of a patient’s reproductive health needs.
Company History
The clinic’s history is a reflection of Austin’s — from hippies to households. It was founded as People’s Free Clinic in 1970 in the basement of the Congregational Church on Guadalupe Street across from the UT campus, by a handful of visionary volunteer doctors and nurses. The clinic is a unique and tested model for medical care, a true safety net for Central Texas’ uninsured and medically underserved. As the go-to health clinic for our most vulnerable citizens, People’s Community Clinic is singularly positioned to make a huge impact on thousands of lives. Our new facility, opened in April, 2016 is located in Northeast Austin within one of the highest-poverty areas in Travis County,. In both its design and services, the new building will encourage patient engagement, family involvement, and personal connections between care teams and patients – more than ever fulfilling our commitment to be a true medical home.
